The Music and Albums of Suzanna Owiyo
Suzanna Owiyo was born in Kasaye village, Nyakach, near Kisumu, Suzanna Owiyo was introduced to music at a tender age by her grandfather, who was a prolific Nyatiti player.
The award winning artiste has been in the industry for two decades with three albums to her name- Kisumu 100, Yamo Kudho and My Roots. Following the release of her first album, Suzanna was nominated for the “Most Promising Artiste Category” at the Kora Music Awards 2002. She has collaborated with the likes of Oliver Mtukudzi, Yvonne Chaka Chaka and Youssour N’dour whom she toured with in Europe under the “New African Voices Project”.
Suzanna has also composed songs for various projects such as Kenya Tourism Board, the UNCTAD 14 theme song “From Decisions to Actions”. Besides Music Suzanna is a champion and advocate for various issues in the society such as Girl Child Empowerment, Food Waste Reduction under her Soko Bila Waste Foundation initiative. She is also UNEP Goodwill Ambassador and Plan International Goodwill Ambassador.
Her music has seen her grace local and international platforms such as Pan African Music Festival –FESPAM in Congo Brazzaville, Nobel Peace Prize Concert, Oslo, WTO Expo Japan, Ziff Festival, Zanzibar, MASA Festival in Abidjan, Yara Prize Awards Ceremony in Oslo, Nelson Mandela Concert at Hyde park in London and Radio City Music Hall in New York, Womex Music Expo in Spain, Masterpeace Concert in Amsterdam, Global Entrepreneurship Summit in Nairobi and UNCTAD 14-Nairobi.
